Just last week I have completed 24 hours of Family Mediation Training offered by the Center for Dispute Resolution, Missouri State University, Springfield, Missouri. The training involved comprehensive simulations teaching techniques to address high conflict cases in which the issues of custody and child visitation are in dispute. Participated in an on-going debate about the pros and cons of keeping all of the parties together in a joint session throughout the entire mediation effort and the typical “private sessions” or caucusing that is often used by some mediators. Introduced the concept of co-mediation which typically involved an attorney mediator in collaboration with a counselor (mental health) mediator.
